New Official Support Forums

Announcing the new Official Support Forum for VEGAn-TAB GingerEdition for the G-Tablet.  The replies on the announcement post on the blog is getting a bit unruly so I wanted to set something up.  I am very busy… coding both the VEGAn-TAB ROM and the VTL.Launcher.  I try to divide my time between the two.  I am sorry if your questions and concerns go unanswered by me but it is very difficult to work on the project and do tech support at the same time.  My hope is that if we move most of the issues and questions to a forum the community will be better able to help each other.  I do see some of the issue everyone is having and am making notes as I go along.  Your voice does get heard!

You will also find that there is a small budding community there where you can discuss all sorts of tech related topics.  New device forums are being added as we move towards supporting them in some type of development effort.

-Enjoy and let’s keep it productive and open.

First Post and First to post :)

I got the g-tab few weeks back and installed 5.1.1 and was happy with it.

Now updated to RC1 and don’t have any issues. Only thing I noticed is the volume is very low compared to 5.1.1

    Thanks for an amazing product.

  2. morbo says:

I am curios, are you continuing to develop the VEGAn-Tab 5.1.1 (Froyo) build as well as Gingerbread or are you putting all of your time on the Gingerbread side?

    • randy holland says:

I’m new myself but have moved from froyo to Ginger rc1 with no problems. My understanding is froyo development was ended in favor of ginger. Great job gojimi.

  3. Allen Bassham says:

Had the new Ginger edition loaded on my g Tablet. Love it! however, the camera low rez issue was driving me crazy so I switched back to 5.1.1. Ginger is still a great build. Minor issue switching back with some incompatible progs coming back over when I reloaded apps. Don’t just do an app+data restore! be selective. Make sure you do a factory wipe and delete all cache info. Anyway, looking forward to the camera fix so I can go back to 7. Keep up the good work and expect a donation.

  4. Bigken64 says:

I had 5.1.1 installed i switched Ginger edition no video will play at all have use rock player the see any video at all not just HD video any video

  5. rawbert3 says:

I’m new to android butim liking ginger, but im having the same two problems low volume and finding a video player

  6. jose says:

I just got my g tablet and now run vegan 7 but I’m not able to use my USB keyboard or mouse like I was on stock, any suggestions’, or a app that can help me.

  7. Rice says:

I have been using the RC1 version since you released it, and the main problem I cannot fix is other programs using the camera. The only function the camera works with is the stock “camera” program.

No other app or program recognizes the camera, each app says that I do not have a camera on my device. I tried a few other apps just to check that it wasn’t just video-calling it couldn’t handle, and I found that no camera based function will work with any program/app on the android market.

Please provide a patch or update to fix this little error, or point me in the right direction to fix it myself.

Overall, great work with the Gingerbread release and I look forward to your continued work.

  8. Steve says:

I received my gtab yesterday and have downloaded the Vegan Gingerbread RC1. So far, it seems great. I have noticed the camera res issue, but did not notice the volume. Didn’t try it before.

I keep hearing how valuable Titanium Back-up is and looking on the marketplace, it appears to not work with this version. Is there a planned fix?

  9. ben_2g0 says:

Clean flashed the rom and rebooted as instructed. I was surprised about how responsive and light the rom operates. This is I think the fastest rom around in 1ghz clocking. But it could have. Been better or perfect without that bug right after screenlock release. Rebooted several times to make sure that it may have just been a coincidence but it was not.tried all tricks in CW, but to no avail. One thing more is, the boot animation was not minimized thus the booting time was longer. If the image is just 1 or 2 inseuence, boot could have been way faster due to the responsiveness of the rom. GOJIMI,you could have perfected the rom. And I think you may know already what the bug is. Tried to use the goose you provided but was not able to correct them. ANYWAY, THIS IS THE BEST ROM YET.INCOMPARABLE TO OTHERS. one thing I am not sure, bat life. This is also needed addressing TnT was not able to achieve that. If you can match the responsiveness with exceptional bat life, you have the most advanced rom. Around. Everything will come 2nd.

  10. AndrewG says:

I’ve been using 7.0RC1 for a few weeks now and I have to let you know that this is the best ROM for my GTab !

Great speed, responsiveness, tablet tweaks, EVERYTHING !

Thanks for all the great work. Keep it up :)

  11. r3c0n says:

Love the load! You guys rock!

    I only have a couple of gripes…

    1) Camera (Same issue as Rice)
    2) Video playback – Doesn’t work at all

I have searched the forums and XDA and nada…any feedback?

  12. Rondoman says:

Thank you! I just got a second Gtab today and will download RC1 tomorrow! You rock!

  13. joe.attaboy says:

Those of you who have flashed 7.0.0. and are having video playback issues, try MoboPlayer, a free video player you may find on the Market. You can set the app to use software acceleration for videos, and they will pretty much work all the time.

    http://www.moboplayer.com/moboplayer_en.html

I ripped about six DVDs over the past few days and tested them on my Viewsonic GTablet with 7.0.0. RC1 and MoboPlayer, and they all worked really well. The app has a few features missing, but the development is very active. And it works.

  14. Superman1938 says:

Anyone having a problem with hbogo app? Crash during login. I cannot login the hbogo site as well. Directv login is behind page in all browsers

  15. Chad Mercer says:

I was wondering if there’s going to be support for external keyboards. I guess I just assumed that this case/keyboard would work on VEGAn, since it does everything else, but it doesn’t seem to work.

    Help?

  16. ismail says:

I have this ROM installed for few weeks now. So far it was running smooth but recently When I am trying to reboot tablet in recovery mode It get freezes on message “loading from image” nothing happens afterwards. I had CWM installed and I flashed vegan through CWM. Any one has any idea how to fix recovery?

  17. Ross Brand says:

With the old Tap n Tap. I could play videos and MP3 . When I loaded on Vegan Tab Ginger the tablet worked a lot better but no Video or audio. Just says it can’t play that type of file. I have tried every possible file type. I found an app that would allow me to play MPG4 videos but still no MP3.

    Any ideas?

  18. masterlu says:

I am a newb at this and i am still learning. Thank you very much for vegan gbe..

I need help with two things thumb keyboard keeps fc
And i want to install pershots kernel but cant get adb to work on my pc. I saw something about using gscript but could not find line by line directions. Also read that we can now flash the kernel but was not sure if it was for vegan rc1. Any help i can get will be great. Thanks!

  19. Cool says:

I love the Ginger Edition. But only issue I’m having is that the sound on MP4s sounds like Darth Vader. I’ve tried multiple video players with the same issue

  20. masterlu says:

Figured it out flashed and i am running at 1.5 ghtz

  21. uzay says:

I ust installed Ginger Bread final rlease with CM8.
It seems to be working fine. But I doesnt reboot unless I wipte the cache.

  22. Storagetech says:

Installed RC1 of V-T v7.0 and have had problems with the Micro SD card just deleting videos for no reason, have the video player setup to see /mnt/sdcard2 and when scanning videos will disappear, also noticed on reboots or power on some videos are gone… very strange issue.
Additionally had the /data volume get corrupted and had to reinstall the entire OS from scratch, seems to be stable at this point but the corruption and videos disappearing can’t say this is that stable unless I am missing something.

  23. tab says:

hi is the new v7.0 rom and future vegan updates/roms compatible with the malata zpad t2?

  24. gtab_11 says:

    Hi,
    Can someone clarify for V-T v7.0 RC1:
Do both speakers work correct and support stereo as original build?
    Does light sensor work properly?
    Does camera work accurately?
Volume and soft home buttons fully supported?
    G sensor fully supported?

Does anyone tried Skype videocall / voice call? Doest work?
    Does YouTube work well?

I assume HD decoding issue is still? But what it means for video playback? Does it play 1080p? Does it playback 720p? Max video file size? Does it play video files at all?

    • Mmm Mmm says:

      - Stereo and speakers are ok
      - Light sensor ok
      - Camera NOT ok. Only recognized by the camera icon, not by any app i tried (including skype and qik).
      - Volume and all soft buttons ok.
      - Gsensor ok.
I have used this awesome ROM since its release. Only issue is the camera. Terrible quality and unuseable with apps other than cam icon.

  25. RK says:

I just got the gtab (from the woot sale) and I’m extremely happy with it — faster and more intuitive than I expected. Also, the browser that comes with this ROM seems to be better than anything else out there.

One problem I’m having, though, is that Flash continues to crash (due to memory issues, I believe, as it displays a gray exclamation point). I can’t get it to run some of the “larger” memory-intensive games, like Cityville or Dungeon Overlord.

  26. G-Tab says:

I am having trouble with the last step of installing v7 on my gtab. At final reboot and load, it only appears to load for a couple of minutes then, powers off. When I turn it back on it cycles through the same thing. I tried using the “Fix Permissions” option and reloading all together but, I get the same results. Anything I am missing? I am following these directions from XDA Forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245

  27. Andy says:

Hi! Thank you so much for this amazing operating system AND for this support forum. I just started using my Viewsonic G tablet yesterday and am very thankful for all the hard work put into VEGAn. It’s beautiful! I’m having two fairly constant issues, though, and they all center around USB connections and internal memory cards.

When I connect my G tab to my computer via USB it freezes up on me about half of the time. I usually have to a reboot. The screen freezes and none of the controls work.

The second problem I’m running into is when I use my micro SDHC card. I unmount it, add files to it with my PC, then insert the card and mount it again. Problem is it’s not recognized afterwards until I reboot. Is that normal?

Other than that I’m having a blast with my G tab thanks to this amazing ROM. Thank you so much!

    • Andy says:

PS The files that are vanishing are video only at this point. Other files I add seem to show up just fine over and over again but video files of any time are often playable one moment and gone the next. It’s very strange. One possible solution is to add a file named ‘.nomedia’ to the root and video folders, but for me it’s only a quick fix. As soon as I exited the video app and go back in the files are gone. Very strange. Haven’t heard from anyone yet on this issue so maybe I’m alone on it.

  28. Joe says:

Hey guys! Got my GTab a few months ago and usually left it in my backpack or at home cuz it was sluggish and limited. Now, thanks to all y’all at VEGAN, I LOVE my GTab! Never flashed anything before in my life. Your instructions worked perfectly and I’m really loving my GTab now! Thank you!!

  29. Andy says:

Has anyone else had trouble with video files deleting themselves on their G Tab under the latest Vegan-Tab? I put mp4s on a micro sdhc card and they are recognized, play, and then later when I try to access the same files they are gone. I put the card back in a reader and mount it to my PC and see that the files are actually gone. However, there always 3 video files that always escape random deletion. They are AVI files that I did not encode myself, but they always remain on the card by themselves when 2gb+ of files are erased. I’d like to know if it’s something I’m doing wrong, but they do just vanish. Thanks!

    • Andy says:

PS I’ve tried a few fixes today with no luck. The ‘.nomedia’ trick works temporarily. I added a video file to my card and started up the tab. The file was recognized by the video program and played flawlessly. I exited the video program and then went back into it immediately. The file was gone. Another video file had evaporated. From my online searches I have read several accounts of this happening with Vegan-Tab only, which is discouraging because everything else about it is awesome! Any tips? Advice? I don’t want to switch to a new ROM, I really like this one.

      • Andy says:

Thanks to one of our members I was directed to the app ‘RockPlayer’… and I have to say, for now it looks to have solved my problem. It recognized my files and played them without deleting them. I exited the player and went back into it. The files were still there! I even performed a reboot and the files are still there and working! JOY! Please, guys, remember this app for video woes.

  30. Axel says:

Has anyone installed Backtrack 5 on the g-tab? Is it possible like in the XOOM?

  31. Jamie says:

HELP!!! had the GB edition loaded and running since April. Changed the user account and now I am stuck on an indefinite boot loop. Cannot access the USB side to side load the .zip file nor can I access it via a USB cable from the PC since USB debugging is not available. It worked like a champ for months and now it is a paper weight! :( PLEASE HELP ME… I am 5’10 and blonde if that helps …. LOL!

    • Angel says:

      You need to NVFLASH.
      simple process.
The Ginger Edition S**cks, No hardware video acceleration!
I’m running VEGAn-TAB ROM BETA 5.1 FINAL Works like a champ:
I can access USB Drives, play any flash content.
Any ideas if there is a Ginger Edition that works as stable as VEGAn-TAB ROM BETA 5.1 FINAL??

    • Jamie says:

Repartitioned sdcard… works like a champ

  32. Rod Pascua says:

My vegantab 7.0 boots too long in my Viewsonic gtab. Is there a way to shorten the boot for a few seconds.

  33. Elliot says:

Hi everyone. I’m a NOOB. Just started reading about flashing and roms. I was thinking of getting this gTablet.

    1) Will I have any issues doing the modification using a macbook?

    2) I read that the camera does not work at all with Skype and that is one of the main reasons for getting it. Are there other stable roms that work with Skype? From my research this is the best / most stable rom for the gTablet.

    Thanks in advance.

  34. ej says:

Anyone else having issues with the new android market? Keeps crashing on me. using gtab and ginger ed.

    • Tom says:

I can’t get Market to work now either.

      • wa3yri says:

My market crashes now too..looks like it is a google driven updated marketplace interface which semi-loads (1st time asked to accept terms) and crashed with a crash screen which reads:
        SORRY!
The applicatioon Market (process com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
        [Force close]

  35. wa3yri says:

Anyone here??? is this ROM and support dead????

  36. SPARKYMULE says:

Love my G-tab that I’ve had now for about a month. Flashed V-T v7.0 RC1 and works great with the exception of videos. I installed the Flash w/hulu fix and still have trouble with some Youtube vids and other web content. Any ideas? other than this I think it’s a good value for tablets.

  38. Kaz says:

Hey, tried to register on the forums and I got a generic error, tried a couple times now with no luck. Love vegan but seems like falling out of date a little? Maybe I’m just being impatient about what bugs remain.

  39. Luddy says:

Was very impressed with the gingerbread 7.0. Is there going to be any updates to fix Market problem? Have not seen any activity for a while on the website.

  40. Jack says:

I just want to second the error when trying to register for the forums. I have a couple of solutions to people’s issues and I would be happy to share. I’ll keep checking back on the registration.

    Thanks!

  41. michael says:

I would really like to see some support for this because i really like this software- im using it on my g-tab right now. But the new market and now youtube has just stopped working and with no new word or support at all im uneasy to continue using this software. I would greatly appreciate ANY news…

  42. Brandon says:

I am experiencing the Market issue as well, this is the only place I found reference to others having the error. I was excited about the option of using the more open devices but overall with the different versions I have flashed to it has been more of a headache than its worth. Each ROM has their issues and since the support is mostly volunteer it is hit or miss. If the Market issue was fixed with 7.0 this would be the best ROM I have found but without the fix it is pretty unusable.

  43. patrick says:

Can someone with some programming knowledge please at least acknowledge the FC issue with the new market? A fix would be even better! Thanks!

  44. EdwinMcG says:

Ok. so I would really like some help here. I AM NOT a developer but I am sick and tired of my Gtab ‘force closing’ on me. I cant even surf the web without the browser crashing!!! What I need to know is ‘is it worth it to switch over to VEGAn-TAB.’ I have no expirience as a developer and need to know if I will destroy my tab, but I am also wondering if it would bo worth it to learn just to stop the madness! I am tired of not being in control of my own equipment and fearing the next moment it might crash. Please… is this the answere or is it ‘just a decoy-dream.’ Thanks.

  45. Church says:

For the FC issue with the new market… do this:

Settings > Language&Keyboard > Select Language > English (United States)

    Problem Solved.

  46. Brad says:

I just moved from another ROM to the Vegan 7.1.0 and it seems to be fine. There are several apps now that say it is incompatible. I am unable to download any browser or other apps like Woot that used to load. Is there something that I need to do?

  47. David says:

I loaded the VEGAn-GE-7.1.0-smb_a1002-BL-1.2-fixed_assert.zip ROM. Everything works really good, very responsive, pretty stable, except the marketplace only works for about a day. I’ve cleared my user data twice now and reloaded the applications and each time overnight mysteriously the marketplace won’t let me download anything anymore saying that “Your device is not compatible with this item”. I actually repartitioned once, re-wipped, and reloaded everything. After a day marketplace is pretty much dead, can’t get anything because it declared me incompatible. I’m rooted with Clockworkmod 3.0.2.8 rev 5 and I started with the stock ROM that I loaded with NVFlash. I’m an engineer I may be able to checkout or test something to help figure out what’s wrong. I like the ROM alot, it’s just kinda useless when you have to wipe the whole thing when you want to load a new app.

  48. David says:

I found the answer the the Market issues: It happens…. sometimes the market loses the proper registration for our device…. to fix and re-register your device with the market… got to Settings/Applications find the Market app under the ALL tab and press the Clear Data button. That’s it…. just reopen the market and viola everything is cool again.

Hi, just installed VEGAn-GE-7.1.0-smb_a1002-BL-1.2-fixed_assert.zip, on ViewSonic gtablet after having installed previous versions of VEGAn as well as HoneyComb flavors. While trying to setup the default email client, the app crashes during the Automatic email setup process, particularly while verifying the SMPT server part of the setup. I’ve since installed K9 Mail from android. Anybody experienced this issue?

    • farmerkd says:

Yes, I’m having the same problem with setting up email. Worked on Tap-n-Tap, but not now. Glad it’s not just me…

  50. WingJack says:

I’ve recently updated to VEGAn-Tab Version 7.1 – excellent ROM – thanks for the great work.

I have a problem with my camera app – it’s eating my battery – how do I uninstall the camera or at least stop it from using so much battery? Thanks… September 14, 2011

How do I ceater folders on the home screen? I googled for this and it says to.press an empty space on the home screen. Disn’t work on vegantab…whats wrong?

Hi, Love my G-Tab now I have 7.0 on. How do I get it to connect to a USB keyboard? The keyboard is getting power from the tablet but I don’t know how to get it working.

  54. Andy Burns says:

Hi love the ROM v7.1 stable. Don’t know if bl 1.1 or 1.2. I have cwm Bekit v.8 Issues important for me are:

USB wireless mouse not working…it worked on stock. I need mouse in my car when it’s in cradle. I want rouse that versus reach to touch screen,.much easier to surf.

Video (flash issue) starting then stopping on streaming stations (WWW.justtvnuts.com) even on 4g.

  55. nate says:

My gtablet with does not sound with a vegan tablets

  56. Andy Burns says:

I am still looking for help in this forum. I had to abandon V7.1 and revert to Froyo 5.1.1

I revert back because I need mouse support (aka I want the mouse to work and have the X).

The actual version doesn’t really bother me. The main issue is applications not being “compatible”. I am using flash 10.3 and it seems to be working. I side loaded as many apks that were missing, from what I wanted but a few are still illusive or for some stupid reason won’t work on the G-tab (case in point, SiriusXM)….

Has anyone found Mouse fix to work on current ROM aka disabling G sensor??

    thanks

    Andy

Im a huge fan of the VTL launcher for tablets only.

I am able to run a USB keyboard and mouse so I Amy just be lucky. My problem only problem is I can’t get maps to work…constant fc. I have a grab so obviously no GPS. Older version of maps worked on the hc rom but the latest maps version on market fcs on both roms. Any ideas?

  59. Austin says:

I have installed the Vegan-Tab version 7.1.0 for BL1.1 on my Viewsonic G Tablet. I would like to report a bug in the Wireless part of this ROM. About every 5-6 minutes (It does it for awhile and then it may stop for around 30 mins and start up again) it will randomly disconnect and reconnect the wifi within a few seconds.
